New Mexico State University Aggie Football

The New Mexico State Aggies compete in Division I-A football of the Big West Conference.

1999 Season

Last season, the Ags finished 1-4 in conference play, and 3-8 overall. This season looks to be somewhat better with the return of 18 starters, and the top recruiting class in the Big West Conference; however, the Ags will need to fill the gap left by Denvis Manns (recently released by the Dallas Cowboys) the leading rusher in the Big West Conference and at NMSU, and only one of a 3 College Players to rush for 1,000 yards each season; but Kenton Keith, this season's starting I-Back looks to fill that gap nicely. Depsite what last season's record indicates, the Aggies ranked 13th in the nation with total offense, but, unfortunately, dead last in defense. The Aggies led most games well into the fourth quarter, and could have had a winning season only if they would not have choked in the last minutes of the game.
